Redefining Worship in Pleasure: The Self-pleasure Series

We culminate the self-pleasure series with none other than—worship. Hopefully, you recognize my patterns by now, so before we begin, let's start with the definition.

What do I mean by worship?

According to Merriam and the Webster, to worship means to express an adoration and reverence or treat someone or something with the same adoration and reverence as one would a deity.

Thing is most of us have been taught the only “deity” we’re allowed to worship is God, whether it is the Christian God, Allah, Jehovah, etc.—the religious folk who assign the title “god” to their Source creator, are within the confines of who and what receives the energy of worship.

I do believe worship is an energy, even a frequency, if you will.

But, the type of worship I have in mind doesn't need to be or look like the same worship we'd give to God, or any deity.

Stay with me here.

Let’s focus on the aspect of worship that pertains to adoration and appreciation.

We can express the energy and frequency of worship through these emotions and allow it to expand into a modality, and even further, embodiment but we’ll stay with modality for the purposes of this series. Within The Muse’s Lab ecosystem, the term "modality" is used from a psychological perspective that refers to a "therapeutic technique or process." So when we reframe worship as a modality, the goal then becomes to honor.

Using worship as a modality, helps us to design a practice where it becomes the conduit for self-love and acceptance.

Take, for example, a movement practice.

We worship ourselves by sinking into the music and allow our body to naturally respond to its rhythms. Remove judgment. Honor where we are in our movement practice and hold space for us to dive deeper into the praise of our bodies and our mere ability to move—however this movement is subjective and varies from person to person.

We can also worship ourselves through meditative practices.

Allow ourselves to tap into the Divine and the subconscious realm. Acknowledge our ability to access higher power, elevate ourselves into Divine consciousness, and affirm our humanness and existence in this realm if for no other reason than to experience pleasure inhibited.

We acknowledge and honor our ability to speak life into existence, and create peace, calm, and alignment within our body.

Consider worship as a pathway to pleasure.

When we institute worship as a modality, we unlock an infinite cycle of constantly pouring back into ourselves. To worship oneself is to love oneself, and to love oneself is to elevate into a higher state of consciousness.

When we worship, we receive.

Receiving praise, adoration, and reverence from ourselves makes it easy to accept the same from others. The key is to see this practice as a spiritual experience. Yes, we’re evoking pleasure but through the sacredness of this experience, we become more attune to our divinity, our benevolent spirits, and ground ourselves to this realm and this timeline.

Pleasure is the outcome of our spiritual connection and by integrating our pleasure practice with our spiritual rituals, we establish a natural flow of spiritually-led sensuality.

Thank you for tapping into the Self-Pleasure Series and stay tuned for more ways to walk the path of integration.
